It All Started With A Dream
From Marketing Mom to Book App and Kids Brand Creator
Hi, Welcome to my first blog post!
You may not know that I’m an accidental author (despite having a Bachelor of Arts in English).
It Started With a Dream – Literally!
In 2007, I was working in a successful marketing career when I had a dream that would change my life.
I’d been having trouble motivating my sons to read for fun (they were 6 and 9 years old at the time). One night, I had a dream about a new kind of book where kids got to physically do something to drive the story forward.
Then I Became an Inventor, Author and Publisher
This dream led me to inventing a new book format and writing and publishing my first book, “Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island,” an interactive treasure hunt adventure story that combined the magic of stories with the fun of little toys.
The iPad Takes Interactive Books to a Whole New Level
In June 2010, I saw the iPad for the first time and realized that I could take my passion for creating interactive books to a whole new level. So we created our first book app of the same name, “Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island”.
So Why am I Doing All This?
So why am I so passionate about finding new ways for kids to interact with and have fun reading?
Because my youngest son is dyslexic. We’re not talking about the occasional mixing up of letters. We’re talking about a real struggle to read at a basic level, even after years of intensive work.
But this son of mine is one of the most curious and imaginative people I have ever met. He loves learning; he just doesn’t turn to traditional books and methods to do it.
That’s what has inspired me to create the whole Treasure Kai brand. The character of Treasure Kai will take kids on fictional treasure hunt adventures through history. The clues he finds and challenges he faces will ignite kids to learn more. That’s where the website comes in with fun and educational content inspired by the stories: Fun Fact Videos, Fun Pages, Behind the Scenes videos and so much more.
So the purpose of this blog will be to share with you all kinds of information, experiences and learnings I have about book apps, educational apps, the app market, reading fun, dyslexia and learning difficulties, and so much more.
So buckle your seat belts and enjoy the ride!
By the way, have you ever heard of a BOHAG? A BOHAG is a Big, Hairy Audacious Goal.
I have one. And will share with you in my next post.
Thanks and treasure reading!
